The Prompter Room

For Tuesday, December 15, 2015:

“Revision is one of the true pleasures of writing.  I love the flowers of afterthought.”

Bernard Malamud

Well, I think I finally finished the first draft of my novel-in-progress this morning!  It’s taken almost a year to reach this point, and I’m excited, both that I’ve come to this milestone and that I can start the revisions soon.

Like Malamud I love to revise.  After I let the first draft sit for a while, and I wait for feedback from my trusted reader, I’ll start my favorite part in the process of writing a book.  It seems almost intimate to me.  I get to revisit friends and locations that have become dear to me.  I hope I’ll be in a position to listen to them better, and I can help their flowers of afterthought bloom more fully.
